Palliative Care Committee
HVH has reinstated our Palliative Care
Committee which will meet at least quarterly throughout the year. Our first meeting with new committee members took place on March 19th, 2024.
What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life for residents and their
families who are facing the end of life. It addresses and attempts to relieve suffering through the early identification, correct assessment and treatment of pain and other conditions, whether physical, psychosocial, or spiritual. Palliative care focuses primarily on anticipating, preventing, diagnosing, and treating symptoms experienced by residents facing the end of life and helping residents and their families make medically important decisions.
The goal of HVH’s Palliative Care Committee is to provide an approach that is
transparent, consistent and maintains the rights and wishes of our residents. Every resident has the right to be treated with respect, dignity and provided with quality care during their end-of-life journey.
Committee objectives include:
- Provide comfort & quality care while maintaining the dignity during the palliative
- journey.
- Reduce or eliminate residents suffering during end-of-life care.
- Collaborate with the residents, family and members of the care team.
- Provide support to the residents, family and staff.
- Provide a consistent approach to palliative care is followed throughout the facility.
- Discuss and plan educational opportunities for residents, family, volunteers and
