All About Ethics…
- What do ethics represent?
- Moral principles that guide a person’s behaviours
- How we act in a situation when conflict is involved
- Dealing with what is “good” and “bad”
It is the goal of Harbour View Haven to provide to all residents the most appropriate care possible within allowable circumstances. We do this by respecting resident autonomy, recognizing values and beliefs of staff members, and considering the interests of family members in accordance with the values of HVH.
Harbour View Haven’s Ethics Committee acts as an advisory group and assists in ethical discussions. It is not a decision-making forum, but a group to compliment the various roles of the team and provide a place where all perspectives are heard. The committee is made up of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure sensitivities to ethical dimensions in
resident care.

Did you know, here at HVH we have created our own Ethics Framework?
An Ethics Framework is a tool developed to provide guidance and direction when the facility is assessing and considering various situations. A framework can:
- Provide the highest possible ethical standards
- Enable fair and consistent behaviour and decision making for ethical circumstances
- Provide ethical support and decision-making tools
