National Health Ethics Week!
November 2-8th 2020
Help us celebrate National Ethics Week! The focus during Ethics Week at HVH for 2020 will be Everyday Ethics.
We’ve all heard of the Golden Rule: Treat Others the Way We Want to be Treated.
Ethics can be thought of as prescriptive, not descriptive. Ethics
teaches us what we ought to do, not what we do. We ought to treat others with kindness, compassion, respect, and so on. An ethical person practices applying virtues, our character traits, in making
everyday decisions.
Consider these 5 questions below in your day to day behaviours and interactions…
• Did I practice habits of the heart today?
• Did I do more good than harm?
• Did I treat people with dignity and respect today?
• Was I fair?
• Was my community (family/workplace, etc) better because I was in it?
Some goals we may want to set for ourselves each day are...
• Try to make things better
• Treat others fairly
• Consider consequences to our actions
• Respect rights of others rather than judging
• Act with integrity
Did you know, here at HVH we have created our own Ethics Framework?
An Ethics Framework is a tool developed to provide guidance and direction when the facility is assessing and considering various situations. A framework can:
• Provide the highest possible ethical standards
• Enable fair and consistent behaviour and decision making for ethical circumstances
• Provide ethical support and decision-making tools
