What is New?
We would like to WELCOME our newest cook who recently joined our TEAM…Travis Paulin! Welcome aboard! Travis has impressed our residents with his Creamy Mixed Veggie Soup (onions, peas, carrot and peppers cooked in milk/cream, salt, pepper, garlic, paprika and parsley flakes) served on our lobster day.

One of our long-standing cooks Sheila Rose, has recently created a new Vegetable Blend Salad for our residents to try and it was a BIG hit! This consisted of a mixture of broccoli, cauliflower and carrot tossed with a homemade dressing of vegetable oil, vinegar, sugar, ketchup and paprika!

New items on the menu – we recently added a new Smooth Cottage Cheese! This item is high in protein, smooth and creamy for residents needing pureed textures and comes in three delicious flavours: Lemon, Vanilla Bean and
Caramel. They are absolutely delicious!

As requested from our residents… we have added a Waldorf Salad to our menu this month! A blend of diced chicken, apple, grapes, raisins, celery, walnuts, tossed in a dressing of Greek yogurt, mayo and lemon juice served on a bed of shredded romaine lettuce!

A recipe to try this summer…

Mango and Avocado Salad
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon lime juice
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 mangos, cubed
2 avocados, cubed
1/2 small red onion, diced
¼ cup cashews
Romaine lettuce, torn
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
In a large serving bowl, whisk together vinegar, lime juice, salt and pepper to taste. Slowly whisk in oil.

Mealtimes at HVH At our last Resident Council meeting, it was discussed and primarily opted for, flipping our bigger meal from noon to supper time. With providing a very large breakfast, followed by the large main meal for lunch, many residents are too full to consume that meal (which contains most of their daily calories and protein). Due to this, many are quite hungry by supper time when the lighter meal is served. With residents’ input, we are looking at moving our largest meal to supper time. Benefits of this include: Improved satiety throughout the evening Less hypoglycemia with morning blood sugars Increased likelihood of consuming the large, main meal The ability to sleep in & have a late breakfast, without compromising intake of the larger meal Stay tuned for results of our residents’ votes! ~ Food Services Team
