Kitchen Corner

We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all of the local lobster fisher-men who graciously donated lobsters to our residents! Thanks to this generosity, our residents were able to have fresh lobster salad sandwiches and WOW did they love them! Those smiles were worth a million dollars!

What is New?
This spring we have introduced some new and exciting products for our resi-dents! When a new menu item is brought on board, we take it to our Resident Council to sample, get approval and then try it on the menu.
What was a hit? Our new tender and juicy boneless chicken wings (wings with-out bones?! Perfect!), tender Haddie Bites, Chicken in Tempura Batter and Gar-lic Fingers. Our residents loved these new tasty items! And for desserts; we tried a new Creamy Custard and Cinnamon Sugar Wedges. Who says pizza bread has to be used for pizza?! Our Director of Food Services and Cooks are always using their creativity in the kitchen. Check out our new dessert below:

Cinnamon Sugar Wedges in a Pumpkin Pudding
Spread soft pizza discs with butter, cinnamon and sugar.
Heat in oven until sugar is melted (just a few minutes so dough remains soft!) Cut into wedges.
Serve standing up in a bowl of homemade Pumpkin Pudding!
Enjoy!

Did you know that HVH plants a sensory garden each summer? Sensory gardens help to provide meaningful and stimulating outdoor engagement opportunities for our residents. Research has shown benefits and positive outcomes for seniors’ mental health when provided access to the outdoors. This includes: • Improved sleep patterns • Positive impacts of natural light on mood • Promotes physical movement, social engagement, stress reduction, and opportunities for relaxation • Stimulates positive memories The goals of our sensory garden experiences include providing opportunities for increased relaxation, well-being, and enjoyment of the outdoors! Volunteers, family, staff, and residents are all welcome to enjoy our wonderful garden space during the summer months.
