Black History Month is observed on different months around

the world:

February - United States & Canada

• July - Australia

• October -United Kingdom & The Netherlands

In the United States, it is also known as African-American History Month. It is an

annual celebration of the achievements and contribution by African-Americans to society, and their role in the history of The United States.

It has been celebrated since February, 1970. Black History Month officially expanded to Canada in 1995 when a motion was introduced by the first Black Canadian

Woman elected to parliament, the Honourable Jean Augustine.

In the United Kingdom, the celebration falls in the month of October. It honours people from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia for their contribution to English history and society.

In Australia, 'Blak History Month' (it is not a typo, it is 'Blak') has been celebrated in July since 2008, to honour and remember the history of Australia's Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders.
